Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility
Work Force Management
The Problem
Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility was struggling to manage the
overtime and leave requests for its force of nearly 300 field employees.
This paper-driven process was subject to lengthy delays and provided little
information to aid in forward planning of cover.
The Solution
dbNews™ was implemented to monitor the work force management solution,
and to send two alerts. The first publication notifies the appropriate
supervisor whenever a request for leave or overtime is entered into the
system. The second publication reports to each employee when their leave
or overtime request has been approved or rejected.
The Result
There were immediate reductions in the clerical effort required
to manage overtime and leave requests. Supervisors now have better control
over their budget for overtime, and are better able to schedule their
resources when employees want to take vacation or work overtime, allowing
them to improve their cover and service levels.
Purdue University
Information Technology
The Problem
The IT department of a Purdue University were experiencing an
increasing number of attempts by students to hack into the
University's own internal systems, using the on-site computer
equipment.
The Solution
dbNews has been implemented to monitor the logon activity of
all applications and portals within the university. As soon
as unusual activity is detected, dbNews alerts the appropriate
security manager.
The Result
dbNews quickly detected several attempts at hacking, and the
students were warned that their activity had been monitored.
This has produced an immediate deterrent effect and the level
of this activity has been sharply reduced.
Expro Group
Asset Management
The Problem
Expro Group, a leading oilfield services organization, needed
better control of costs and spend against budget. The company
provides services in 40 countries with over 3000 employees.
The Solution
dbNews was installed to monitor data on budgets and financial
targets within their asset management solution. dbNews provides
alerts to supervisors and financial controllers when budgets
and targets go outside defined parameters.
The Result
The company has dramatically reduced the unnecessary overspend
that is endemic in their industry. They have immediate visibility
of possible issues and are able to take action before any further
spend is committed.
Trinidad Powergen
Inter-department Information Flow
The Problem
The service engineers at Trinidad & Tobago Powergen, responsible
for 300,000 customers, did not have easy access to the warehouse
inventory system, making it difficult for them to know when parts
were available. They also needed to know when certain types of
work order had been approved.
The Solution
dbNews now alerts the engineer as soon as an ordered item is
available. An alert is sent to the Supervisor if items are
delayed or short shipped, allowing the work to be rescheduled.
Alerts are sent when Work or Purchase Orders require approval, and the engineers are alerted when approval is given. Potential delays are highlighted through the reporting of all outstanding Work and Purchase Orders. A report is sent to management listing any items purchased but then not used.
The Result
The benefit to the service department has been considerable.
Engineers and Supervisors are now automatically informed of
all issues relating to parts, allowing much better planning
of jobs and management of engineers time. The company is able
to provide a faster, more efficient service to its customers.
