General Requirements
Q: What versions of MAXIMO are supported?
A: MailLink works with MAXIMO versions 3.x or 4.x.

Q: What are the client workstation requirements?
A: The client workstation must run a Windows 32-bit OS (Windows
95,
Windows 98, Windows NT, or later). Additionally, the client workstation
must be setup for access to the target database as required by
the
database vendor. Access to the MAXIMO application software is
not
required.

Installation & Architecture
Q: How is MailLink installed?
A: It is recommended that MailLink be installed in a central
network directory.
Your Network Administrator can assign rights to this directory
for the
MailLink users at your site. By installing in a shared network
directory,
MailLink configuration options and screen customizations only
need to be
maintained in one place.

Q: Is an Application Server required?
A: No, MailLink includes the work request as part of a standard
email
transmission and connects to the MAXIMO database as a client-server
application so there is no requirement for a separate application
server.
However, MailLink can be run on an application server such as
Citrix which
can reduce implementation and support effort for large, distributed
user
groups.

Q: What setup is required for each user workstation?
A: For users who only generate work requests and do not approve
requests,
there is no workstation setup required. For users who are approvers
of
MailLink work requests, there is a single setup program which
must be run.
This setup program simply associates the routed work request
file with the
MailLink executable application so that the approver can open
the MailLink
work request from within the email message.

Q: Can MailLink be used by users who are not connected to the
network?
A: Yes, if an application server is used to host the MailLink
application then
user workstations do not require connectivity to the MAXIMO database.

Licensing
Q: How is MailLink licensed?
A: MailLink is licensed by “named user”. Users are defined in
MailLink by
entering users’ email addresses (e.g. jsmith@acme.com), by importing
user names and addresses into MailLink’s User table, or by selecting
user
names from your email system’s address book (this option applies
only to
MAPI users). Once a person is defined as a MailLink user, that
person is
authorized to generate work requests and can approve work requests
if
assigned to an approval routing by the administrator.

Q: Can additional licenses be added after the initial purchase?
A: Yes, additional licenses are normally available in blocks
of 100 and can be
added at any time by contacting your sales representative.

Database
Q: What databases are supported by MailLink?
A: MailLink supports the following database servers:
· Centura SQLBase Server 6(+)
· Oracle Server 7.2(+) with SQL*Net 2.2(+)
· Microsoft SQL Server
· Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise and Adaptive Server Anywhere

Q: How does MailLink connect to the target database?
A: MailLink connects to the target database using the database’s
native 32-bit
API’s. Because MailLink connects using the native database drivers,
there
is no ODBC setup required for user workstations.

Q: What email systems are supported by MailLink?
A: MailLink supports the SMTP messaging protocol so it works
with virtually
every email system available. Microsoft Outlook users can optionally
choose to use the MAPI protocol instead of SMTP.

Q: Does MailLink impact the performance of the mail server?
A: MailLink generates only standard email messages and does not
burden the
mail server in any other way. The MailLink email messages and
attachment
file are very small in size (typically 2k - 6k) and will not
affect the
performance of a mail server provided that the mail server is
not already
handling a volume which is at or beyond its capacity.
